Z06 engine swap into LT1 Camaro?
Z06 engine swap into LT1 Camaro?
Well, I found an engine that needed a ring fixed for cheap (trade my damn Mustang for it)
I have searched and searched the forums, and I don't see anyone that actually did a swap into an LT1 Camaro.
Since I am planning on getting New engine, transmission, rearend, driveshaft, PCM tune, Fuel system, etc. Just how involved do YOU
think putting a Z06 engine into our LT1 Camaro/Firebird would be?

I assume he means the LS7, which is worth alot more then an LT1 car anyway...
it can definatly be done, but will take alot of money and time. GMHP had an article on a black ls1 style camaro with an LS7 swapped in it a couple months ago. Other then that, I don't recall much info on LS7-T1 swaps but I am no expert. Here is a thread relating to this info

THANKS! I knew someone would know. It is actually an LS6, I believe out of a 2002 z06.
Since I am already purchasing a transmission, exhaust, engine, etc, it may not be much more for me to do that.
Or maybe buy an LS7 engine built and done by an aftermarket shop. The ONLY reason I would fork out that much money instead of a traditional small block (LT1 or SBC, whatever) is that with the proper ECM, Cats, etc.... It would pass SMOG in California, and pass inspection after going to an inspection place. Just say it is the same as a Corvette.... show him or her the information... bam, SMOG legal.
Whereas a SBC or BBC (which would be great) would not pass smog here.

My brother did the swap on his 96 Trans Am.
He swapped out k-members, swapped ALL the wiring in the car with the wiring from a 98 Camaro so it would be mostly plug and play.
very first pass at the track after the swap.

I guess I am fickle... I have flopped and flipped between what to do for my 'performance car'.
I guess I will stick with the 400HP LT1 Golen engine that is coming for my 95 Z28. I know the LS ones are faster stock, but I like the idea of older technology doing stuff. You guys have gone above what I ever would have thought in the LT1 engine.
Now adays someone sees the older headlight style on the 95 and think ''' old LT based''', but when it actually MOVES... I like it.
Hell, I still have a MicroVAX 4000 here in the garage I fire up every now and then.
