yokohama avs db's or falken 512's?

I am buy some 255/45/17's for my car and am looking for the best possible hooking tire at a resonable price. Less than $150.00. All 4 tires, NO DR's! I am looking to buy very soon. Thanks

I have the Falkens and am not impressed, great in the rain but that's it. I've heard good things about the Yoko's you mentioned. I'd say Nitto's but they wear too quick, you want some tires that will stick in the rain after 3 months of wear anyways. Get a 2nd set of drag rims/tires for the track and when you do get drags get MT ET Streets and you'll be shocked.

The Nitto 555s are pretty cheap aren't they?

My day job is selling tires and both the tires you listed above are not that great. Especially for anything high perfomance. ----------------> Brad

Ended up buying 3 tires. 1 nitto 555 to match the newer on that i have and i will put them on the front. I bought 2 yoko's for the back. I will try out the yoko's and see how i like them. The nitto 555's are pieces of crap, if it is raining i can punch the car in 4th at 2k and spin the hell out of the tires and now that its cold i can't even punch second from a roll and i have 3.42's!!! Why the heck do tires cost so much anyways?? lol 500 bucks after all was said and done for 3 tires, mounting and warranty.

Yep tires are expensive, you wouldn't believe all that goes into marketing, researching, making and distributing them though. I had a Volvo come in the other day and sold him on some Bridgestone Pole Postions S-03s. $214/ tire! He left with four tires and an alignment which cost a little over a GRAND. Happened again the same day a Audi Quattro TT, Pole Postions as well but $1100 out the door. Pole Postions are awesome tires IMO. ----------> Brad

You do this for a living? What makes these posts/threads useful when using the search features is when you find replies with options, etc or something which could be taken into account.

lol yeah it doesn't take long to wear the 555s, but at least in Texas weather (lots of rain) they worked fine for the first couple months. It's once you get them worn down about halfway (not much tread anyways) they lose rain traction. I picked up 3/10ths with them at the track though so not complaining. Never seen anyone put them on the front, I'd think that was pretty dangerous in the rain especially if you are already spinning with them (means they are worn already). The Kuhmo's are inexepensive and work fine out front especially in the rain.

Well you probably don't want my opinion, but here you go. I personally drive the hell out of my car. If I had a BMW or Lexus, I would put some nice tires on it like Bridgestone Pole Positions, Michelin Pilot Sports, Or Energies. Unfortunantly I go through tires quickly and don't want to drop a grand or more every time I need tires. I personally will go with Sumitomos on my Camaro, next time I need a set. They are made in Japan as are Kumhos and are a decent quality high perf tire that is inexpensive. I prefer these over Kumhos as Kumhos have a much lower wear rating, I believe around 280 or so. This means they are soft rubber and wear very fast. This is just my opinion, hope it helps. --------> Brad

on the contrary thanks, you posted something ppl can do research on based on your experience, be it actual or customer feedback results, etc. I've never heard of Sumi's, but would keep them in mind. I can't stand these Falkens and I've gotta live with em since they are new. My MT ET Streets are on matched rims for track or dry Sat nites, etc, so I'm wanting a good rain/dry traction tire for everyday use too.....well once these wear out ..

I JUST BOUGHT NEW TIRES AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. Go with the Goodyear F1 Gs-D3's, they hook up like Nitto's and I am NOT LYING. Read my mods below (torque converter 2800 Stall, 3.73's, etc...) and I can hook up PERFECT with these tires. They are street tires and I can launch it at 1,000RPM's and not even lose one bit of traction, just hooks right away and I am gone. I am going to the track this friday and will let you know the results. A must buy are these tires and I am even running them at the track at 38lbs of pressure and hooking like drag radials. #1 rated tire on tirerack.com is these tires and compare them to the others. I got mine $310 for the back tires shipped to my house in 2 days.

How often does it rain in Phoenix?

Also, why don't you get 275s?
