y-pipe hits floor when under power

ok anyone out threre running pacesetter lts and the pacesetter offroad y-pipe? the y-pipe on the driver side is so close to the underside where it is flatened on the pipe, it hits when i give it some torque and it vibrates. pissesme off. i dont want to put polys in cause that will vibrate the car even more. anything i can do?

Put a Poly motor mount in the pass side only and see if that helps out. Im afraid if its already hitting that a poly motor mount on the drivers side will only create less room.

What trans mount do you have?

If it is snug to begin with you could rig it with a piece of high temp silicone hose (like used on turbo apps) slit and wedged between the pan and around the tube, it's ghetto but hey it might work to take up the slack.

im runin a new rubber trans mount...i tried the poly and that vibrated too. if i have to ill bend stuff to avoid the poly mounts. thers prolly about 1/4 inch gap.

Yeah poly mounts have the potential to create vibrations. I have all poly motor and trans mount with no vibration. The pass side motor mount is cheap and you can find one at Autozone on the shelf. Installing one should prevent the motor from torquing to the right as much, hopefully enough to keep the y-pipe away from the body.

Mine never vibrates, and under power it doesnt clank.

But pull out with it throttled up on a hill, where theres tons of transfer, and it will. I keep saying Im going to put something under there between them to keep it from making noise but havent yet. It might be easier to tap the floor pan up a hair ( Like 1/4")

Re: y-pipe hits floor when under power

I had to put a bend in the floor pan brace that the y-pipe runs past on the driver's side. I've got FLP's though so all I had to do was drop the off road pipe out of place after marking the spot I needed to clearance. I used a floor jack and a very large impact socket. Anything round that will create a large radius bend will work. I used the jack to apply enough pressure to that spot to dent it in until I didn't have more contact under torque.

I have the same problem. Im thinking about just bending the whole damn thing down somehow so I can get rid of the piece of heater hose in there. I seem to be fine until about 3000 rpms then BANG BANG BANG RATTLE.

so the car was heavy enough to bend the brace? hmm. ill look into that.

Same thing here. After dealing with it for a month (my knock counts were over 30,000 per run!!!) I pulled the ORY off and used a big hammer to dent in the brace where it crossed under. No more problems I've heard thats what most Paceseter guys do. BTW, I still have stock mounts, polys are sitting in the garage for a rainy day...a very rainy day. I hear its a huge PITA to install

Re: y-pipe hits floor when under power

i wasnt sure if my ORY was doin this as well but its like a deep crackly type vibration noise that occures right off the line or alittle bit off the line if i give it a certain amount of throttle i guess this is whats happening is this really bad? should i be concerned and concentrate on fixing or is it something that i can do down the line

Re: y-pipe hits floor when under power

You really should replace the stock motor mounts if you have that much play. My car has 85K miles and the stock rubber mounts were real sloppy and worn. I replaced them with the poly and I have no vibrations. But my y-pipe would still hit the torque arm once in a while so I plan on replacing the torque arm bushing since it's sloppy too.

Re: y-pipe hits floor when under power

I took the channel brace on the drivers side and cut the side wall's out of it about 2" either side of the center line of the pipe. Then jacked the bottom flat piece up to the floorboard and re welded it. Gave me about 3/4" more with a 3-1/2" "Y" pipe and it is level with the ground and not hung all out under the car.
Bit of work but looks nice.
