XE cams
XE cams
Ok folks, I need some opinions here. I’m split between the XE 224/230 and the CC305 cams. I’ve done some searches on the board and talked with several other folks (Comp, Nu-tek, Cmotorsports…etc). Some really like the XE grind while others have noticed some variance in the performance of the XE cam and/or the XE cam lobe grinds. Does anyone have any experience or opinions on this?
Thanks,
Rob

Need more details on your car, trans, drag race, autocross, daily driver, etc.
Take a look at my setup below. With ported heads Comp cams recommended the XE 224/230 (With a 3000 stall). I don't have the heads yet, still debating...

I don't know how the XE 224/230 is. But the general idea behind XE cams is more aggressive ramps and more midrange power for better drivability as opposed to the cc306/cc305 which are traditionally more peaky.
You also need aftermarket lifters with the XE series because of the aggressive lobes.

From what I’ve read either of these would work for my application and my intent was more generic rather than application-specific. I understand the intent of the XE grinds but was wondering if anyone’s had ill experiences with them. Hearing about inconsistent XE performance/lobes made be think again about this cam. Here are my car’s specs though:
Car is a 95 Z28 M6 daily driver:
383
scat crank
11:1 compression
ProMag 1.6 NSA rockers
Comp lifters
Advanced Induction heads
Comp 987 springs
Thanks!

Well as you can see from my sig I have the XE 502 grind and am very happy with it. I had the cam before I decided to get my heads done or I probably would have gone with the XE503 seems to be worth about 15more hp on the topend. Anyway if I had a 383 as you do along with your already worked heads I would look seriously at the XR280R grind or XR286R solid roller XE grinds. I plugged in the XR286R in my desktop dyno with a 383 and AFR 220 heads and got 530HP at a mild 6000rpm and peak torque was 520 at 4500. That is a killer street engine. If you can live with a mechanical roller that would be my choice otherwise the XE503 or CC306 for a hydraulic cam. Just my opinions.
