X/H-pipe nessesary ??

I have just installed jet hots on the car this last weekend I currently have a hooker y-pipe but I was thinking about changing that over to true dual I want the cheapest and best exhaust can I just bend two 3 inche pipes and hook up two bullets. with out foolig with an x-pipe and I want it quieter that flat open ehaust but I want the performance. Is this the best option. or should I fork out 400 for a cat back.

Real quick question too: what is the story of back pressure good or bad?????
