WS6 airbox conversion, where to run opti vent?
WS6 airbox conversion, where to run opti vent?
On my '97, just put a WS6 hood and airbox, and did not find anywhere convenient to run the Opti vent line. Should I just drill a small hole in the box or reducer? Will it make a difference if it is before or after the MAF?
Re: WS6 airbox conversion, where to run opti vent?
Opti feed line needs to be after the MAF, as this air will be sucked into the intake manifold after it passes through the opti (otherwise it would be unmetered air causing your motor to want to run lean).
Re: WS6 airbox conversion, where to run opti vent?
My car came from SLP with it in the box...theres a rubber nub coming off the left side (if facing away from car) of the box and it goes into the nub.
Re: WS6 airbox conversion, where to run opti vent?
My SLP air box did not have any holes except the one for the IAT sensor on the right side, and one for the AIR pump air supply on the other. Since I don't run an MAF, I found a plastic vacuum connector that fit into the Opti air supply hose, a rubber grommet that matched (snug) the diameter of the plastic vacuum connector, drilled a hole in the airbox next to the AIR connection for the grommet to fit correctly, and plugged the hose in there:

Technically, as pointed out above, it should be located after the MAF. Putting it in the airbox is like creating a small vacuum leak. Nothing the long term fuel corrections can't adjust for. An alternative to the stock "bellows" that comes with the WS6 or SLP airbox is the $5 Fernco sewer pipe connector. Drill a hole in it toward the bottom (the connector is fairly thick) and push the blue elbow in there, out of sight. This is the Fernco connector, a good idea for an ram air setup:
