wrong firing order?

What would be the symptoms of plug wires put on in the wrong firing order? I know it is bad, but exactly what would the car do? I ask because I am considering buying a lt1 z28 for a very low price as the owner cant figure out what is wrong. I suspect that 4 plug wires are crossed.

If 4 wires were wrong its not very likely that the car would start or run. Starting on 6 with 2 wires crossed is possible.

It dosnt start at all. It turns over strong for a second then it seems to "skip" then it trys again then stops. It sounds like it will start for like a second then the turnover sound gets weird and stops. The battery is low, but it turns over strong for a few good cranks.

If you can, I would do a compression test to see if the engine is mechanically ok (top end at least). If the price is right, I would buy it and then figure out what is wrong. Looking for crossed plug wires is an easy thing to check.

BTW: when I first read your post I missed the part about how you were looking at an LT1. I thought you were talking about the '98 in your sig. I was thinking how much of an idiot you must be to cross plug wires on an LS1. HAHA

lol

I think I might just buy it and find out. The car never ran right (miss-check engine light-failed emissions), and after he changed the plugs, wires and opti it started the new symptoms.

Anyone got a pic of the correct firing order?

You're asking for firing order, but I think you're actually looking for the wire routing information. Maybe I can help.

Driver side cylinders starting at the front on the car to the back are cylinder numbers 1, 3, 5, 7.
Passenger side cylinders starting at the front on the car to the back are cylinder numbers 2, 4, 6, 8.

The driver side of the opti starting at the bottom of the opti, and going towards the top, the wires are 1, 7, 3, 5.
The passenger side of the opti starting at the bottom of the opti, and going towards the top, the wires are 2, 8, 6, 4.

I know for a fact my opti had markings on it. But I don't recall if it was stamped with the corresponding cylinder number, or a letter code. Just in case it's the letter code, here they are;

1 E
2 A
3 F
4 B
5 G
6 C
7 H
8 D

I hope this is helpful!
