WOT & Converter Lock-Up
WOT & Converter Lock-Up
Is this correct?
Car is a 1993 Trans-AM, 700R4.
Is the converter suppose to lock-up during 2nd during WOT? According to some scans, it stays locked on through the whole ordeal. Is this hurting performance / reliability?
I was understanding that lock-up should only happen while in 3rd gear.
Anyone?

Converter lock-up will happen as I understand it at a certain mph in 3rd gear. there is a way to electricly lock it at the ALDL plug with a switch that if your right with it can help times as well.
Yes sir, using Datamaster I can see the converter lock as soon as it comes out of 1st gear or around 42-45 mph. It stays locked thru 2nd and does not change while in 3rd. Not sure if it is really happening, but I can see when the "TCC Lock" = 1 is commanded.

Yep, if I look at the Tunercat tables, there are thresholds for mph (above 42mph) - it allows for lock-up. Basically this covers all of first gear. Is having the converter locked @ WOT thru 2nd affect performance in any way?
I notice that on the 1-2 upshift, there is some lag in engine response. The shift itself is solid and crisp, but I notice as if the engine is try to match revs (if that makes any sense) once in 2nd gear and eventually catches fire again. It feels like if it had turbo-lag for a second or two after the 1-2 upshift, and then it releases its might.
Not sure how to explain, any thoughts?
