Wiring Help?

This is gonna sound really stupid but its been so long since i had the battery in the car i forgot how to hook it up. i had the alternator wire going to pos. then there is the pos starter wire then the block ground wire that are both together comming from under the motor on the passenger side. then i hooked the red bracket wire on the passenger side to the pos terminal. now there was one more wire the black ground looking wire right by the power steering fluid. i tried and hook it up and it sparked! very baddy and i knew that couldnt be right. After further inspection i find my smallest starter wire that screws in to the solenoid had broken off was this my problem the whole time? bout to head to auto zone to get a end connector for it since mine broke off.

Re: Wiring Help?

im thinking the tiny red wire that goes on the solenoid post was causing the spark because it was not connected?

Re: Wiring Help?

Shoebox has the wiring diagrams. This is for a 95, since you didn't mention the year of your car:

Re: Wiring Help?

Have you looked at the wiring diagram and accounted for each of the wires connected to the battery, red terminal box, generator (alternator), starter, solenoid and grounds?

Re: Wiring Help?

yes i have looked at all wiring diagrams. im done working on it for the night checked all motor grounds and starter everything seemed fine hooked the proper wires up and then she started smoking from the second post on the postive wire piece right next to the power steering fluid. have no idea why it did that and im kinda afraid to even mess with it now because i dont wanna cause further damage.

Re: Wiring Help?

If you have smoke coming from one of the posts in the red "+" box, one of the wires is connected to a ground. Check each of the red wires to see where it terminates. Something is not connected per the wiring diagram I posted.

Re: Wiring Help?

Yeah I don't know have the starter wire, altnator and postive box wire hooked up. When I go to connect the block ground wire and negative ground wire right by the power steering fluid box it goes crazy and starts sparking. I just put a new starter and altnator and the wires are in great shape I don't understand where the short could be I am completely mind stumped the car has been completely rebuild and the last thing I thought would be a problem is connecting the battery.
