Wires and Plugs
Wires and Plugs
First time trying to change plugs and wires, '94. If some of you experienced people could tell me if I'm on the right track. On the passenger side the
wires wrap around the front of the head but behind the power steering
pump line. The space is too tight for the wire ends to slip through.
I can't believe I have to pull the p/s pump?
I've already dropped the Y pipe, pulled the motor mount cross bolt and raised the pass side about an inch and a half, pulled the pass fan and the alternator. Don't want to damage the new wires trying to jam them in.
Ps: I used to think my '79 was hard but this '94 is ridiculous!

Re: Wires and Plugs
what kind of wires are you installing? i installed the msd superconductor 8.5mm wire set and the only thing i pulled was the alternator. you shouldnt have to pull your power steering pump. good luck.
Re: Wires and Plugs
welcome to the board.
changing the wires on this car is definitely a chore. i understand why you pulled the ps pump. it can probably be done without it, but do whatever it takes to make it easier to get to those dang wires on the passenger side. i had to pull the starter to get to the back two plugs (on the passenger side). you'll definitely be going in from the bottom for those. i also use a spark plug socket that has been cut in half. and then on the socket i use a ratchet wrench with a pivot head on it (from sears). it makes a world of difference in changing these things out. a guy on ebay used to sell the sockets for a couple bucks. although all you'd really have to do is take a standard spark plug socket and cut/grind it down to about half size and use that. really no other helpful advice other than to tell you to get some headers
. good luck man.

Re: Wires and Plugs
droptop z, slverbullet,
Stock size, 7mm?
There is a plastic 4 wire seperator that makes a 90 around the accessory mounting bracket (not the head) and that is where the wire end won't clear, between that and the power steering line. I loosened the pump till the pressed in upper tube from the pump catches on the back of the bracket.
To move it out further I would have to take it off and it looks like the bottom bolt would be way too much trouble to get back in. It's still a heck of a tight fit. With the old wires in I had less than 1/8 of clearence over the wire, that's not enough to get the wire end through. Maybe the p/s line is in the wrong place.
Do you have a/c also? If so I sure have a lot to learn!
Anyway, thanks for the advice and helpful hints.
