Question Wire sheilding from Jet-Hot Long-tubes?

What kinda sheilding did you put on your wiring harness after installing long-tubes or did you move your wires somewhere away from the headers?

I just got my long-tubes in, and I'm thinking the wiring harness is to close to the header.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Mark

I spent alot of time extending and routing wires away from header heat. I have not had one problem since the LT install and I think all the time I spent was worth it.
I had to extend and reroute the starter wires and the ABS wires (ABS I just rerouted) cruise control cable needs to go behind the heat shield that covers your brake lines. O2 wires need some attention as well and I think thats it.

When you extended your wires which way did you route them, and how long did you extend them?

Thanks for the info,

Mark

Some of my wires i did with the normal split loom over them then wrapped them in alumimum tape. The tape you use on home HVAC. Cheap and easy no problems yet.

Re: Wire sheilding from Jet-Hot Long-tubes?

Its been over a year since I did the install but let me think........I extended the wires on the harness to the starter about 8 to 10 inches I guess and routed them forward and then down under the motor mount so it takes a bigger curve around the headers instead of straight down the wheelwell like the stock location. I wrapped them with wire loom and used zip ties to keep them where I wanted em. The ABS wires you have to mess with a bit to get the right routing and after its all said and done they will not go back into all the holders but mine seem to be fine although I can see a spot on the shock housing where they are rubbing, its not bad and it does not seem to have caused any real damage so I am keeping an eye on them for now. I made my own O2 extensions, spent some time on them so they are done correctly and I wire loomed them as well and then zip tied them up away from the headers.
Its not hard just takes time, gotta double and triple check your routing so you don,t have any problems down the road.

What is this wire loom you are talking about? I ordered some thermo shield tape to protect my wires. What brand are you referring to?

The black plastic stuff that goes around your wiring.
Its split so you can wrap it around wires to protect them from rubbing on things, I put some over each wire that I routed through the bracket so they would not get damaged.

Ok, I'm with you. I didn't know what that stuff was called. I just thought it was that black plastic **** that melts if it gets to hot.

Thanks for your help,

Mark

I didn't move any wires, nor did I put sheilding on them. It's been like that for a year without problems.

Hmm......Yeah I helped a friend install his LTs on a 95 firebird and did not move any wiring or put shielding on it and it burned all his stuff up.
Better safe than sorry.
