Will the stock cat kill hp?
Will the stock cat kill hp?
I'm about to slap on the new longtubes tommorow. Since its a convertible i'd like to avoid the smelll and excessively loud sound of a catless setup. Mods are Pacesetter longtubes, offroad Y pipe, Magnaflow, ( I plan on jerry rigging it to all fit together).
Will I lose a lot of hp

The air tube just runs to your airpump. The purpose of the air system is to heat up your cats more quickly and make it more efficient at cleaning the exhaust...at least that is what I think I read.
Down here in Florida there aren't emission issues to deal with so I would say goodbye to your cats and airpump. My car sounds so much better since I removed my cat.

3 way catalytic converters come in two variations, with and without air injection. I believe 3rd gens had the version with constant air injection. Basically there are two honeycombs in the cat and an air pump that runs continuously to inject extra air into the system before the second honeycomb of catalyst.
We have 3 way converters without air injection. Yes, we do have an air pump, confused yet? Our air pump only runs at startup to help warm the cat(s). It pumps air into the manifolds or headers, NOT directly into the cat like the 3way+air that i mentioned above.
