Will a rear view mirror w/ compass and temp sensor work on my car?

I'm thinking about swapping my rear view mirror with one that includes a compass and an outside air temp. Obviously i'd need to buy a sensor to monitor the outside temp., but will i need to buy an onboard compass for it also? Or is this mounted inside the mirror. Has anyone done this swap before?

The mirror im wanting to buy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-RE...spagenameZWDVW

The compass is in the mirror. On the trucks chevy mounted the temp sensor behind the grill in front of the radiator.

I've actually been tempted to install on of these, but I'd loose my interior light in the mirror.

You could get that, but more than likely it doesn't come with the wiring or sensor. I would find that out first.

You can buy these aftermarket and come with everything, including instructions.

Why is this in the engine tech forum?

You'll have to find one with the sensor and wiring but yeah you can get one to work. I have one in my car....I love it. Think its from a Toyota Sienna or something. Made by Gentex.

Thanks that would be awesome. Do you have to pull out the headliner to do the wiring? That part would scare me some.

Nope not at all. I forgot how it was setup but you could easily tap power for the mirror off of anything under the dash that works in accessory and run. Just ran the wiring down the A-pillar after tucking it under the headliner. Then I mounted the sensor up by the radiator.
