I have a question about this car that i made a deposit on. Its a 96 Z28. I was all excited and everything but the used car guy will not gurantee it through inspection. It has the check engine light on and that could be many things as you guys know, big or small. Im new with camaros and my dad is a corvette guy so he dosent know all that much either. Is it worth the risk and getting whatever fixed? A couple of hundred is ok but if its the head gasket or something else i heard that that could be pretty expensive. What do you guys think? Im supposed to be picking up the car tomorrow.. Is it something you really need to see/hear? We drove the car and it sounded great and some other potential buyers came by and knew a lot about the car but were not that sure either. If i get it, am i gonna get screwed? Sorry for being so vague and THANKS!!!

Impossible to know without knowing the reason the light is on. Auto Zone will scan the car for free. Scan it and see what the code is.

It's unlikely that a blown head gasket would turn on the SES light. Probably just a code for a bad O2 sensor. It's common with older cars.

so then its probably worth it? I mean i know its hard for you to say never seeing the car and stuff but i just want it to pass inspection, i dont want to get there with a car i just got for 6k and then have to put another thousand in it.. know what i mean. I dont know..

 

Here in CO, the seller is reponsible for the car to pass emissions. It's the law. Years ago I bought an RX-7(cash, all spent a week later) that never did pass emissions. I sued for my money back and more.
