Will this oil level sensor work?

I ordered a new oil level sensor since oil was leaking out of mine, but the part # the guy at the chevy center gave me is 12579983. It has the same shape as the original part, but is made of plastic instead.

I told the guy that it didn't look the same and he told me he ordered one for a 3.8 instead of 5.7 but checked, and said that the part #'s were the same. Does anyone know if it will work?

Prices on gmpartsdirect for the two different #'s are way different. The one listed for the 5.7 is like $45 and the one I got was only $18.

Thanks for any help.

I had to replace mine a few months back, I got it from Jason Cromer and it was around $40. It doesn't sound like you've got the correct sensor to me.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll take it back tomorrow and have the guy look up these other part numbers.

I replaced my low oil lever sensor last week due to a leak, the original one is made out of metal (where the wrench contacts it) the new one is totally plastic.

Do you happen to know what the part # was for the one you bought? The one you put in sounds just like mine. Made completely of plastic.

Like Shoebox said, the part # has changed from 2450719 to 1257995. I was doing an oil change when I noticed mine leaking so I wasnt patient enough to wait for one to come in the mail so I went to the stealership and they bent me over for $45.00 + tax. part #12579985

Thanks, I was just wanting to see if your sensor had the same part # as the one the guy gave me today since they were both made of plastic.

I went back to the chevy center today, and had the guy type in the part #'s that shoebox and lt1t56 gave me. When he did, he got 3 pages of oil level sensors, none of which were for the camaro. He typed in the part # again for the sensor he sold me, and it came up for a camaro. He also showed me the diagram just to make sure it was the right part.

I'm going to try it out, and I'll post a reply if it doesn't work just in case someone has the same problem. If it does work, it will have saved me about $25.
