Will i need to bleed the brakes?

Since my 94 Z had brand new brakes when i got it a while back, the brakes were out of sight, out of mind. They worked fine, so i didnt mess with em.

Now its time for a front brake job. I know when i need to compress the caliper piston I need to open the bleeder screw. After all is said and done will i have to bleed the whole system or no?

I knew this is a stupid n00b question, but this will be my first brake job on an ABS equipped car.

TIA

You don't need to open the bleeder to compress the piston. Just take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir, and make sure there is some free space in the reservoir to accept the fluid pushed back into it. Hence, no bleeding required. Remember.... brake fluid will melt your paint.

Whiel it is true that you don't have to open the bleeder screw to compress the piston back, I usually do, since if you don't, you are pushing the possibly contaminated fluid back up thru the system..
It can be done either way tho..

You don't need to open the bleeder valve, but I would recommend it. Just as Mtrhds94Z said, you are pushing old fluid back up to the M/C. Hook a tube up to the bleeder, open it, push the piston back, and put new brake fluid back into the M/C.
