Question will clutch through of balance neutrally balanced 383 for automatic transmision?

My brother and I visited Las Vegas and he ended up winning some money. Then on the way back his stock B4C z-28 got smoked by a viper. So he made a New Year's resolution to make his car faster.

I found for him a nicely built 383 that was neutrally balanced for automatic transmission. Price is very appealing, but he has an M6, and if he buys that engine, we will have to put manual's flywheel + clutch. Will this though the engine off balance, any way around it without tearing the motor apart?

Thanks

The flywheel will need to be neutrally balanced. The "backyard" way to do this is just to remove the counterweight from your existing flywheel. Should be close, but it doesn't cost much to have it checked.

could I just take the flywheel and clutch to the shop and ask them to neutrally balance both? Don't have much knowledge about balancing.

One more question: are stock engines used for manual and automatic transmissions the same, or different? I do see a few people doing automatic to manual conversion

The clutch will be neutral balance. But the flywheel has a counterwieght and will need balancing. Or, as I posted before, you could go the ghetto route and just remove the counterweight!

The engines are identical.

I would never go "ghetto route," not a single shortcut worked out for me . So I could take a flywheel to a shop and ask them to neutrally balance it? Is there any way to buy a new flywheel that is already balanced, maybe somebody knows from where? I think my brothers flywheel with 100k miles would not be worth reusing. Paying $3000 and taking a shortcut, not worth it.

Thanks for reply

Look for a guy called "redroc wrench" on this forum or the Mi/Great Lakes forum. I happen to know that he has a nuetrally balanced flywheel that only needs machining to freshen up the surface a bit.
