will a bent pushrod cause loud tapping?

Ive heard people saying that a bent pushrod will cause a loud tapping after doing searches but how does it if it is tightened between the rocker and lifter?

Bending a pushrod makes it shorter. That loosens the valve lash adjustment. Result = more slack/tapping.

even if they have been readjusted? I know im posting alot of ?'s about this but im trying to find out enough info to figure out the problem before i decide to pull of my intake and heads. would it be ok to just throw the stock rockers back on for a bit to see if the tap goes away while leaving the lt4 hot cam springs on?

You can adjust a bent one, but the geometry might be off because of the bend. It's so easy to check to see if bent while you are adjusting them. Pushrods are cheap. Fix the problem.

Once bent they tend to keep bending or 'flex'.. the rigidity is lost..
Take em out and roll em on glass to check if bent..

well i pulled them all out and they were bent very slightly, i mean very except for one it was bent pretty good. so i just changed everything except the springs back to stock and te noise is now gone. do oyu think the bent one was binding up on the valve guide plate causing it to smack back down to the lifter? many people are running the ratio rockers i am without having the problem im having(1.7's). Is it ok that i left the hot cam springs in? or should i put them back to stock? Im thinking in a week oor so im going to oreder new pushrods and try them before i put the stock springs back in.

1.7's on the stock cam right?[not a hotcam?]
Could the rockers have been hitting the valve cover?
Yes, leaving the springs in is OK..

I'm gonna have to agree and I'm no expert on the subject either...but I do know that 1.7's do have clearance problems with the stock valve covers...

i hear 1.6 have bad clearance, im pretty postive you need a modified valve cover to support 1.7s

actually i had no problems with the valve cover. the noise was there with or without the valve cover on. i had no contact marks in the valve cover. looking closely at the new studs and at the bottoms of the rockers, i was thinking that maybe the rockers were too far down on the new 7/16th studs and were maybe hanging up on them. the new studs are longer than the stock ones plus using the guideplates raised the studs even more, you guys think that would cause a problem like the rockers hangin up or something to that effect threr by causing the slapping/tapping sound that developed?

check that your rocker arms are all tight. Just had the same tapping problem...pulled the head cover and VOILA...a rocker arm that was getting ready to jump out.

Peace!
