Cars dead! In somebodys yard Need HELP

Short run down 1995 6 speed 47,000 miles vortech supercharger, crane cams HI6R with TRC, new crane coil.

I've had problem in the past with rain and car washes getting the MAF wet. Its common with S/C setups, so I've been told. Car would just stumble once or twice. Never had a major problem.

I think the optispark is starting to go but not sure. It will stumble when given a slight throttle load around 2-3k but never hurt driving or WOT or any above slight throttle.

PROBLEM Driving for about 20min in a downpour. Car stumbled twice for a split second. I drive through town and park at a buddy's house. Rain stops and were going to leave and the car will not fire. turns over great just doesn't fire. We wait about 6 hours and still won't start. We had to push it across the road into somebodys yard!

No check engine lights. I've not yet checked the fuses. Will do that tomorrow

1 If the MAF gets too wet will it fault out or blow a fuse?

2 my crane cams ignition is supposed to have a light when on yet its not lighting up. Yet it was working and now not?

3 if the opti gets soaked will it not start?

Any help is needed

A friend of mine had something similar happen to him and he also has the Crane ignition but he doesnt have the supercharger on his car. It turned out to be his coil so if you have someone around that you can swap a coil it might be worth checking. His car was actually running and he came to a stop light and it just died on him. It would crank just like you are saying but wouldnt fire up. We put my coil on the car and it fired right up and has been going ever since.

The crane light only turns on when the MAP sensor detects boost.

Opti most likely this happened to me at 5000 rpms it was quite a loss of power LOL.. Car would turn over fine just wouldnt start. I think you can check power from coil to opti if thats fine but you have no spark at the plugs then its the opti.

start bypassing things

try unplugging ur MAF and starting the car
unplug the Crane box (hook up the factory wiring back in the coil)
stuff like that .. see if u can pinpoint the problem ..

if ur opti got wet it should fire up after its dry .. though someitmes it dies indefinately ..

try this

unplug a wire from a spark plug .. and crank ur car .. see if u get spark (dont hold it with ur hands though its painfull )

if u were getting spark on crank that means ur opti is commanding and working fine ..

u can also try the injectors .. hold one and have someone crank the car . u sould feel t pulsating with ur fingers .. if ur not getting fuel or spark that means ur PCM is seeing no activity from opti

also unplug the opti harness from both ends and check for corosion (blue residue on the connectors)

good luck

I think what happens is those stupid brittle points in the cap get wet and has soon as they dry they are still brittle from condensation and when you give em spark theycrack or come apart, just a guess though. Either way change to vented opti, Ive washed my engine bay with no probs let alone drive through rain.

It was the damn coil wire! Was corroded real bad and when I try to clean it the wire broke It was weird because when turning the car over it was like the coil screamed at me like a loud bird chirping.

Glad you figured it out. Ignition troubleshooting sucks.
