will 97 TA speedo fit 96?

I know it wont on camaros because of diff cluster design and all (and wiring) but the only cosmetic diff on 97 and 96 pontiac speedos is the digi/mechanical odometers...

so will it directly fit? or some wiring req like the camaros...

thx!

If you run in to wiring problems, my friend Ryan did the swap in his 96 Z28, he like you said had to change the dash, but his site has some pics of wiring diagrams

The cluster wiring schematic (major props to Marc for this) is on the left. Regarding the last line of the schematic: you will need to add a jumper wire going from the headlight switch (brown wire) to the cluster connector (B1 - This jumper wire powers the digital odometer). You will also need to ground a wire from the ASR slot (A8) if you do not have traction control in order to keep it from staying lit. Lastly, you will need to leave out the yellow "fasten seat belt" wire (C6-A12) to keep the seatbelt light from staying lit at all times. The schematic on the right (again, courtesy of Marc) is for the rear window defroster.

Yes 97 TA speedos & 97 Camaro speedos both work on 94-96 TA's/firebirds, like I said even the 97 Camaro ones does, 98+ ones don't work they get all out of wack. The only thing that doesn't work is the seatbelt light, it stays on all the time unless you pull the bulb, if you really care you can look at the wiring diagram, there is a wire you have to just switch the place is sitting in inside the connector, other then that it works great & the digital part looks awesome too

but 96 pontiacs have the seatbelt light as well... so i dont see why it would stay on?

'there is a wire you have to just switch the place is sitting in inside the connector'

is that why?

The 97's are a two stage light. Also if your car doesn't have Traction Control the TCS OFF light will be constant on. I have a 97 cluster in my purple pearl 93, and it works fine. I believe you can actually open the cluster up and pull the bulbs if they bother you too much.
