Wierd Screech
I got this problem ever since I owned a car. When my car would shift from 2nd into 3rd, it would make a screeching sound. At first I used to think that it was transmission problems. Eventually I blew the stock trans and had it rebuilt. The car made the same sound. A week later it managed to mess up again. So this is my third trans and the car still makes the same sound. I got to the conclusion that its not the trans which is making this sound. Some one suggested that it could be pulleys/belt. I changed the belt about 8 months ago. Any ideas?
it might be you belt tensioner cause i took of my belt tensioner pulley to do so work and when i put it back on i must of tightned it to much, so i started the car i got a real loud screeching soi turned the car off and lossed the nut a little bit and it was fine.
Now if it still does it, take some belt dressing and use it on the belt and see what happens.

Cool. Would a new set of underdrive pulleys help this. What are the best pulleys?

Underdrive pulleys won't help the belt screech. Get a new belt (like a Goodyear Gatorback) and see if it stops. If not, change the belt tensioner.

It about 5 1/2 to 6" round and has 1 bolt going in the middle.
If you go underneath the car it will be to the left of the crank hub and right of the AC compressor..
I didnt need a jack to do it , i got underneath the right front side of the car and did it BUT you might need to jack it up if you cant get it loose, it's only arms lengths away.

Just unscrew the bolt a little loose not much or after you break it loose then try it, DONT loosen it up all the way it may fall off.
The tensioner puts tension on the belt from a spring inside the housing i beleive.

I don't believe the tensioner is adjustable. Plus, belts can look good all day long and still screech. It's really hard to tell about a belt.
