widest tire for 17x9 WS6 wheels?
widest tire for 17x9 WS6 wheels?
I want to know what the widest tire is that i can get for my 17x9 stock WS6 wheels? i was wanting to get 315/35/17 if possible....i have 275/40/17 currently. If i have to have 17x11 inch wheels where can i get 17x11 inch WS6 wheels?
315's are really pushing it on a 9" rim 9.5" would be the absolute lowest I would go. 315's would only be heavier and buldge like crazy. Check out www.ws6.com he widend his WS6 rims to 11"
you can max them out with 285/35 or 285/40 but its a tough combo to find. if you want 11" wide WS6 wheels, goto a wheel repair center and ask them to widen it 2", they can cut it and weld in a 2" spacer around the interior wall.
275/40zr17 is about as big as you can go on 17x9. You will have to get 11's to put on 315s. Check out how much those are a tire before you get your rims widened. They will break the bank! Thats why when i got my chrome zr-1's i got 9.5 all around. Plus they will stick out horribly on a trans am. Getting the piece welded in will reduce the strength of the wheel. Good luck in your decision. Thanks, Michael
Also if i do get the 17x11's and the 315's, will they fit inside my stock wheelwell without modification? people are telling me i might need minor massage work inside my rear fenderwells.
Yes you can mount a 315 35 17 on a 9" wide wheel. As others said it will not be as effective as it would be if mounted on a 11" wide wheel. I have seen 2 cars with stock 10 spoke SS wheels and another on 95 Z28 with SS wheels. To my surprise the tires looked really good on those wheels and did not bulge as much as some of these guys think. Now, as I said before the tire will probably not be as effective, but yes you can mount them on and they actually look pretty good.
Hope this helps.

I heard that with the f-bodies, the old Corvette Grand Sport wheels are 17x11's for the rear and I think they were 17x9.5 in the front. The backspacing is supposed to be just right to fit it inside the fender and all you have to do is roll the lip and do a little massaging of the inner fender (with the rear seat up and locked when you do it or you will never be able to get it to lock back into place again) to eliminate any small rub spots. You may also have to grind down the bump stop down there in the wheel well too. The wheels were the black painted ZR-1 style if you dont know what I am talking about but they will fit inside the fenders with 315's. Just a little bit of info for you.
