why is there no aftermarket for the 10 bolt?

maybe this isnt a tech question but i would think some vendor or company could make a killing in the aftermarket with some heavy duty rear end upgrades for the 10 bolt, since 2K plus is alot of money for the average Joe to spend on a new rear end?
maybe we could generate some interest in this? or has it already been tried?

There are "upgrades", but I hate to say the 7.5" gear is pathetic. My straight 6 came with a Dana 36 sized gear, 200mm which is about 7.87". All that on a car that originally only made 130 HP or so and weighs about 1100 pounds less.

GM did us no favors with the rear, the gears are going to break, time and time again. Get yourself a good torsen ATB style limited slip for road racing, if you drag then you will have to replace that rear with something better, or live with the fact you will break it time and time again.

There is already aftermarket components for the 7.5" ten bolt. SLP offers a heavy duty posi unit and several vendors offer a cap support cover. After spending $700 or so for those two pieces, if you're still fragging rearend parts the next logical step would be the 12 bolt or 9 inch anyway.

Hard to upgrade a 7.5" ring gear, unless you make it bigger.

I am not convinced those fancy covers do anything. I have one on my 12-bolt, but mainly 'cause it looks good.

i understand that but isnt it possible to use a stronger material for the gear, like billet steel?
also, when the rear breaks is it the actual gear that goes usually or axles or what?
there has got to be a way that the CZ28.com community being 25,000+ members strong could generate some sort of interest by companies for the rear end other than swapping a whole new unit in
maybe i'm trying to leap a building in a single bound

thanks for the replies so far guys!!
keep'em coming, maybe we could part the red sea

I dont have one, but that is why i havent purchased one either, currently i'm exploring all possible options for a rear end, short of going to a whole new one
like getting an 8.8 to work since you can find those cheap and they have an aftermarket
there has to be some option out there for the 7.5"

The only way to make them better is to remove the old one and put in a bigger one...

The Honda guys have this down... how many f-bodies have you seen with engine swaps?

there is simply not enough material there or room for it too make it stronger. there are many options out there for 7.5 rear ends, but none of them can come close to making that rearend stand up to power. if your going to drag race it and push it hard put a bigger rearend in there. after 20 years of trying to make the rearend in an fbody work they still havent done it except to switch it out. why GM decided to go with the 7.5 over the 8.5 that came in second gens and was in so many other cars i dont know, but thats the dummest thing i think they ever did. well short of cancelling the platform anyway. it isnt that nobody wants to make it stronger, it is that it isnt set up to be that strong. the rear end covers dont support the part of the rears that usually break. the 7.5 ring gear is what makes it weak. cant do anything about that.

the few hundred dollars u would spend on trying to strengthen your 10 bolt would be better spent on piecing together a ford 9" or a 12 bolt!

It seems like they would have at least made a 12 bolt option anyways.
