So, you mounted that intake on an LT1 block w/LT1 heads?

The block was an LT1 from a 94 Firebird. The heads were CNC Machine LT1 heads that were CNC ported.

Did the intake need to be custom machined at all, or was it a bolt-on deal? Nice car, BTW.

Cool. It'd be great if someone did a back-to-back comparo with this and the stock LT1 intake.

The highest horsepower NA LT1s I've heard of don't have LT1/LT4 intakes. Brian Bieller's 597 hp 396 had a TPIS Mini-Ram, if I recall correctly. Mindgame's 15-degree head 647 hp 383 has an EFI converted Victor Jr., I believe. My 650+ hp (680-700 hp potential when tuned, according to Brian at B&B) 396 has a custom Hogan's sheet metal intake. Coincidence?

I wouldn't assume that there's no performance gain for a sheet metal intake.

A lot has been done to this engine. SuperRam intake. CNC ported heads. Forged internals. Cold Air Induction. Headers. Good exhaust system. 58 mm TB. Bored and Stroked 383. Custom Isky cam. I am not sure how much the intake has to do with this but it is putting out 400 rwHP and 565 ft/lbs of rwTQ.

I have seen the Hogan sheetmetal intake and they are awesome.

Most peoples LT1 h/c setups are being held back by their heads more so than the intake IMO.

Even if werent, whats kind of gain is worth a $1k manifold to you? 10hp? 25hp?

I 100% agree with that statement. Although the LT1 intake is decent, it would be better with a taller port roof and more internal volume in the plenum. The runners could also be a touch longer. Oh wait...everything I just said in in the Hogan!

Just out of curiosity how much hp would you need in order to utilize a sheetmetal intake.

Not necessarily horsepower, but if you have heads that flow over ~290 cfm on the intake, you're probably going to benefit quite a bit from a sheet metal intake. If you have heads that flow in the high 330s like mine, then you definitely will.
