#1 The stock one works very well, there is not much need for improvement for most peoples horsepower levels.
#2 It costs a lot of money for companies to design a new one
#3 The LS1 is now the newer, high tech motor where aftermarket companies are spending money on designing new products.
#4 There is always the LT4 intake, which is an improvement over the stock one.

It's like that 52mm throttle body. Until you start making a TON of power you really don't need it?

Lack of demand. It's very expensive to tool up to make such a part, and of course R&D is needed as well. To amortize these costs over a relatively small number of units is prohibitive.

Indeed, there are relatively few LT1 cars out there, and an untouched LT1 intake is more than 99% of guys need

If you really want a nice intake for a more extreme setup, it's pretty much just SBC, so have someone convert one .

Mmmm, the hogans looks neat, but I bet you could spank it with a converted manifold for less $

those hogans are way too expensive... the problem is that for the amount of R&D to make an intake manfold that would show minimal gains is not worth it to most companies. The faults with the LT1 intake manifold are not in it's physical design, it's inherent to it being aluminum - it heat soaks very easily. I started a thread a while ago about plastic LT1 intake manifolds like the LS1 manifolds. You should check it out.

do you mean an existing aftermarket sbc manifold converted to fit the lt1?

what is it about the sheetmetal manifolds that makes them so expensive?
it doesnt look like much difficulty to build for a machine shop and welder.

Not worth buying a new intake... heat soak is a problem.. but isn't there some way of coating it? I thought I read somewhere that people do that to keep the heat out. Either way.. stock is fine besides that. All though a plastic one like on the LS1 would be awesome

Swain Tech can put a thermal barrier coating on the bottom of the intake, and a thermal emitter coating on the top. That makes the LT1 manifold much more resistant to heat soak.

Yes.

Time/materials/skilled labor & the fact that it isnt a mass-produced item.

I remeber Edelbrock made one, and it was only around for a couple of months I saw it in Summit or Jegs and it was only about $345 then when I finally wanted one they said they no longer carried it. It was advertised as adding 45 HP. Any one else remeber this? It was around 1994 0r 95.

That was the problem. It didn't add anywhere close to 45hp.
