Why does the LT1 sound better then the LS1

I've never actually heard an LS1 in person but i've heard they sound a lot different, lot raspyer. I have an idea but whats your opinion oh the reasoning for this. Anyone have any clips of both cars stock.

A few things effect the exhaust note. Block composition ie. iron, aluminum...firing order, etc.

Some LS1s sound good, but personally when I hear one with a loudmouth I want to puke!

The most significant reason for the sound difference is the firing order change, from what I hear. The LS1's sound more like mustangs than anything.

I guess the LS1 has a more "refined" sound to it.... its not a rumbling loud meaty sound

The shape of the exhaust ports, the aluminum block, and the firing order all play a roll in the exhaust tone.

Ive heard both numerous times. The LT1 has the classic iron block chevy rumble. The LS1s have a new age Ferarri type sound. I liek them both, but I also agree that you must choose your muffler correctly on the LS1. The mufflers that sound great on LT1s sound awful on the LS1s. the Loudmouth tries to make the LS1 sound meaty and it just sounds bad.

For the LS1 I would recomend Borla, MAgnaflow, or dynomax for an LS1. Flowmaster and hookers jsut dont sound right on an LS1

You guys put it very well. The ls1 sounds quiet in stock form; I can barely hear it running at idle. I wish I could find a cheap fix for the sound of the ls1, but for now I have a cutout on it so I can hear it running at idle. The cutout doesn't sound that good IMO, only at certain rpm's. Now the lt1 on the other hand reminds me of what a v8 is supposed to sound like especially with a cutout. Like said above, it's the firing order along with a different block, cam, etc... That's what makes the lt1 and ls1 sound different.

LT1s with Hooker cat back sound awesome, like an old muscle car.

LS1s just sound way too tame.
