Cam profile has to do with the sound as well. Plus iron block aluminum head(LT1) and aluminum block aluminum head(LS1) makes a difference. Iron is a denser material so it will have a thicker sound. LS1s are quiet but the run well so they are stealthy. LT1s are louder but they run great so both motors are awesome.

1993 Trans Am, Jet-Hot long tubes,Spin Tech mufflers, built 700-r4, k&n filter, 14.16 bone stock no runs with headers and stuff.
I beleive the largest contributor to the sound is the cadillac firing order , the tone is influenced by the cam, port shape compression etc.

I always wondered about this...never thought about the firing order, I even made a movie of three of my cars, A LT1 with no mufflers, Pontiac 455 with flowmaster, and LS6 with borla to compare the sounds.

I just started up the ls6 cold, that is why it is running so rich.

You guys that think the LS1 sounds like crap with the Loudmouth are all nuts. I have it on my SS and it sounds awesome. You can't beat the respect I get from people on the street when I come rumbling down the road. For the price factor involved here you simply cannot beat it. Now I would like to hear what everyone thinks of the Loudmouth on the LT1 because I wouldn't mind considering that on my Z.

Firing order has nothing to do with it (LT1 vs. LS1).

Biggest difference is exhaust manifold design (LT1 is siamesed, LS1 is replicated), pipes/muffler design.

Draw a diagram of the cylinders, then connect them with arrows depicting the firing order. You'll see that LT1 and LS1 have same pattern, just flipped.

Do the same with a Ford, and you'll also see the same pattern. Ford numbers their cylinders differently, which leads you to believe they have a unique firing order. Renumber per the SB convention, and you'll see.

Ford exhaust manifolds are usually replicated.

LS1 sound like a stang? no way. maybe the crappy 4.6 gts or something, but when i think mustang i think 5.0, and those have one of the best sounding exhuasts ever for a small block engine. iron block true dual mmmm

LS1 sounds different bc it is an aluminum block, it cant have anything to do with exhuast manifolds bc they sound different than LT1s even when both have the same headers and catback. aluminum and iron just dont resonate the same way

i got a friend w/ a 94 z edlebrock headers and exhaust (sounds delicious)
his sister 2002 z w/ flow masters cat back
her x-boyfriend 2002 ss w/ magnaflow cat back sounds good for ls1

the 94 sounds the best... by far.

but ls1's are too quiet for me they dont sound like muscle cars do.

my friend has a 02 TA bone stock, he has a straight pipe in place of the stock muffler, its not that loud at all, and has a decent tone to it. we were thinking it would be hella loud with no muffler.

i've never heard a corsa on an LS1. i have to say though that the best exhuast i've heard on an LT1 is corsa i've heard alot of LS1 exhaust setups and pretty much hated them all..recently however i heard an LS1 with magnaflow and i was somewhat surprised it had a really nice note to it..in my opinion still not as beefy as the LT1 Corsa combo though..

A friend of mine heard an LS1 with a cutout and LT's and commented that it still wasn't as loud or sound as good as my car with the cutout. He is putting an elec cutout on his car soon, so we will see what happens. I think mine will still sound better.
