why cant they make modding easier???

Trying to get everything together for a H/C install and I started to wonder; I mean they sell H/C kits but why not a FULL Install kit? you know like heads, cam, injectors, exhaust, converter, etcc.... and a premade tune for everything. You're gonna spend the money anyway, why can AI or LE put something together and make an exact list of what components go together, like a pre-ran setup that has already been dyno tuned........ Just a little rant I guess. Stressing out that the stuff I'm putting together wont work right and no dyno to tune with thats close to where I'm at.... All I want is some horsepower!!!! Guess I'll go hop on my r6 and go de-stress.......

Re: why cant they make modding easier???

I actually proposed something similar.
Because I felt the same way stressing over my build up.

The custom tune is out because it is exactly that, custom for your setup.
Most installs dont put out their best numbers until they are tuned a little
(That means both PCM and physical). There are so many things that can
cause power loss on a H/C setup.

The politics involved in the "blame the tune" game are just not worth it.
Lloyd did point me at several mailorder tuners who had done good work with
his stuff in the past though. The chip I got from PCMforless was pretty close.

As for other parts, I bought quite a bit it it directly from Bret (the person who
designs the LE camshafts) and I had Lloyd (LE) do the manifold. All I really
had to buy outside of that were gaskets, TC, timing set and injectors.
(looking back on it, Bret could have supplied me with some of the stuff I ordered from Summit)

I doubt AI or LE would carry TCs or exhaust systems, but I bet you could
probably convince them to sell you gaskets, a timing set and injectors.

Who knows, maybe we'll see Lloyd put together a package in the near future.
Or maybe he will chime in here and post some extremely obvious reason why it's a bad idea LOL.

Re: why cant they make modding easier???

well surfing everyday on the message board and seeing the stuff over the accell injectors, bad tunes, etc... just stresses me out. I've got expendable income but I'm doing this all cash, no credit , and I've got 3 kids and a wife to work around. In other words, I gotta do it right the first time. Actually, been thinking about buying a junkyard engine and building it up w/ everything and then dropping the k member and doing a "quick" swap. I work 60+ hours a week but I get a 7 day break every month. I dont want a torn apart project that sits in the garage in pieices for 12 months. Dammit with the stress.

LOL I agree man, I was sharing the van with the wife and kids while
mine was being done up. That's why I added a page to my cardomain
with a list of parts so others don't get hung up waiting for something
they forgot to order.

Not much I can do about the tune other than suggest you pre-order
a custom chip based on the parts you are using. It will be close enough
to run and you can always datalog it and get an update made later.
Most tuners will do that for free.

Because most people who buy heads/cam packages already have headers installed. And lloyd is a head porter, not a performance shop, it wouldn't be practical to carry exhaust systems and such. + everyone has a different budget, goals, ect. There is no one size fits all. Just do your research on mods, and do it right the first time. Spending a little more money and doing it right is cheaper than spending less, not doing it right, and then having to do it again.

Re: why cant they make modding easier???

I'm not neccessarily saying for lloyd or AI to carry the actual parts, but to have a setup already dyno tuned with specific brand/type of parts. You know, like saying that lloyd used pacesetter or hooker headers, what part number pushrods and gaskets, what brand converter? Just overly worried about buying something, finishing the car, runs like crap, getting on the message board, and then someone say........dude, the (insert part) that you're using is (insert either wrong, crap, not as good).

Like a said just do you research. Pacesetter is a budget header, while kooks is one of the best headers out there for our cars for example. I'm sure if you email him or call him up he would give you some recomendations on parts. I know he was extreemly helpfull to me and all I had done was get an intake manifold ported.

If all this hot rodding was easy I'd have my wife do it.

What you're asking is almost impossible. It's rare to see two cars setup identically.

A dyno tune on similar cars will not always be optimal for both cars.

Modding was easier before I was married w/ kids.....and it would be the $hit if my wife could do it for me when I was at work "look honey, I installed your converter, degreed the cam and washed the dishes.......wanna bj?" ahhhh...the dreams of a perfect world.

LMAO, you don't even want to know what a woman like that costs.

Well, they did pretty much provide me with a list of what I needed when I asked.
All the internal stuff anyhow, I'm sure I could have got recommendations on other stuff as well.
Neither will ever recommend using junk, in fact you can probably search and find at least several
posts about Bret being called "****" about his parts recommendations.

I bet you could even ask what they run on their own cars. Lloyd was building up a very streetable H/C 97 last I heard.
Although your particular taste in parts may differ from what others use.
Some people like a street ridem, some want a dragstrip car, others want something in between
You pretty much have to ask questions and find out what suits your needs.
Kind of like picking a catback, everyone has a sound/performance preference.
