Why can't I use wheel spacers with these studs?

Why can't I use wheel spacers with these studs?

Hey guys I just got some skinnies and ordered some longer studs, nuts, and 5/16 spacers. I just got them yesterday and when I looked on the packaging for the wheel studs (moroso pt# 46160) it said that i cant use the studs with wheel spacers. Why?
Would it be alright to use spacers anyway?

Spacers tend to recalibrate the factory offset. This could dramatically affect handling. Also, spacers tend to put an extra load on the wheel bearings. If the bearings are in good condition and packed/checked regularly, you may be able to slip by with them. But running at 100 MPH for extended periods of time could cause extra heat to build up in the bearings causing the wheel to separate from the hub.

Your situation isn't probably as extreme as the spacers used on the lowrider scene with the wire wheels... this is where the rims stick out of the car due to extreme spacers... very unsafe.

Good luck. How thick is the spacer? Also, you may want to get some feedback from the autocross section.

Is this a street driver, drag, autocross, etc...?

You may want to do a search in "Advanced Tech". There was a thread there recently which I started to discuss spacers. I wouldn't use them where there are high cornering loads, and there is some disagreement about just what risk they pose on the rear. But it is very common drag racing practice to use them on the fronts to fit skinnies. As long as they aren't extremely thick (keep them 1/2" or less), and are made of steel (not aluminum), and you check the lug nut torque after each run I can't see a problem on the fronts.

Hey guys thanks for the replys. Is there any difference in design between studs that would allow for the use of spacers on some and not on others? If the only concern is not doing hard cornering (which i dont plan on doing) I will just use these ones, however if it had something to do with the way the stud is designed i will find some other ones. The car is mostly for the street but chances are the skinnies will pretty much be for drag racing and every now and then on the street. I usually only drive it on weekends any way.

Hardness of the metal and the length would be the only differences. Sounds like you'll only be using them sparingly. You should be ok.
