Whoa, 100psi of fuel pressure! Cause?
Whoa, 100psi of fuel pressure! Cause?
Hey all, I had my car towed to the dealer because it cranks and won't fire, and the dealer tells me that the rail shows 100 pounds of pressure and the engine is flooded.
What would cause that? I pulled the vacuum line off the regulator the other day and it was dry, no fuel in it. The filter and pump are less than 6 months old, is there something possibly clogging up the regulator or the return line off the rail? How do I diagnose the cause?
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Whoa, 100psi of fuel pressure! Cause?
Definately sounds like a fpr or stopped return line(never seen one). I wasn't aware that the stock fuel pump could even produce 100lbs of pressure but that would definately flood the car.
Re: Whoa, 100psi of fuel pressure! Cause?
I know when I installed an aftermarket pump, it pushed the pressure up by 5-6 psi, through the stock FPR. I swapped in an AFPR to back it down. But 100psi? Ouch!

Yeah sounds like your fuel pressure regulator is stuck closed, your FPR vacuum line is off, cracked, or clogged, or your return fuelline is blocked or kinked/bent shut. You can try to see if the regulator will open with a hand vaccum pump if you have one(fuel pressure should go down, other wise its bad). Your fuel pump can build up pressure that high at idle if it has no where to send that much fuel, you can seriously damage certain components in your fuel system though so I would reccommend repairing it before you drive it again.
