I've still got the stock opti, but know the day will eventually come when I need to replace it. I'd definitely give MSD a chance.

I would send them my money $$$$!!!
I am under the impression that $$$$ is how the world goes round. Without it, it would be very difficult to stay in business.
I remember somewhere in Finance 101.
MSD, help us help you.!!!

I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
You need to let MSD know that the Opti is THE weakest part of the LT1. I'd pay good money to replace the Opti, assuming the replacement wasn't prone to failure. It may cost more than a new Opti, but it would be a long lasting solution.
And the CPC system should be easily adaptable to the LT1, it just needs something to translate cam position to the PCM, some sort of processor.
Anyways, MSD caters more towards performance enthusiasts, not Joe Smith who needs to replace GM part #5467 thats broke on his Blazer. But with this, they'd be hitting both markets really, depends on advertising of course. I mean, how many of us ditch perfectly good working parts for better ones? All the time! And the Opti is basically ticking away, waiting to d¡e...
And if they don't profit from us for some odd reason, the performance enthusists, how hard would it be to get the word out to shops and stores that this is a better solution to the Opti? If it turned out to be a great replacement, I'm sure word would spread, and your average LT1 owners may have this as an option.
I think this is a great idea, and anyone with an LT1 would love a cheap alternative to the Opti... and $450 would be cheap.

Count me in too!!
I've not had any problems with mine yet,
but it would be great to have an alternative
to putting on another opti. At 70,000 miles
I,ve been hesitant to upgrade my ignition.
I have wondered if an opti can stand
up to the spark of a hot coil. When I got my
MSD catalog and started looking up my upgrades, I looked for a distributor too.

offroad pipe.

If and when my opti goes I would seriously consider an alternative. It's all about the price though

Thanks for your support guys. I like the idea of a stand alone DIS system also, Fred. If they develope a stock replacement for us street people, they would have the platform to develope what you are thinking of. Just eleminate the cap and rotor and go with a cam sensor to drive the DIS. Good idea. They already have the coil packs and DIS ignition controls.
I will give this thread another day or two, then forward it to MSD. Thanks again for everyones support. This is the type of thread I need to get manufacturer's attention.

I just e-mailed MSD two days ago with that very same question And they replied back and said they looked into building a after market
distributor but with its location and design
they decided not to.
