Re: Who to port LT4 heads???

I've seen some different LT4 heads on my bench and TEA has impressed me the most for the money. They have a port that with STOCK LT4 valves (which is what I would recomend for the weight) out flowed a set of 2.02 hand ported heads at everly lift level.

They said they were 290cfm heads and I got 288cfm. Pretty good since the "300cfm" heads I have seen go about 282cfm or so.

I really like Lloyds work on LT1 castings, even he admits that at LT4's he's not the best at, but for a budget porting he would do dam fine work.

If not some of the better head porters out there can do magic on them, but they don't come cheap.

He should be taking them soon so it's still good to e-mail him and ask.

Re: Who to port LT4 heads???

Im gonna go with AI to get my LT4 AFR 220's ported. I'm completely blown away by their customer service. I emailed Phil and Ron about getting the port work done and they were very helpfull and answered every question i asked well above and beyond what I was expecting. And then a couple weeks went by and they emailed me back to check back with me and if I decided to go with another company, what was the deciding factor that made me go elsewhere so that they could improve their customer service. I've never had anyone care THAT much before. I give them props on the customer service. As for the port work, from what i've read and heard, you wont be dissapointed with what you get from them. A lot of porters tell their customers about what flow numbers to expect out of their heads at .600+ lift but AI focuses on low and mid lift flow as well. Hope this helps.

I'd have to agree with you...I was looking at going a few places but when I talked to Ron/AI one thing they said to me, struck me. "What can we do to earn your service?" Never had ANY car related company care that much about their customers. That and I feel all but garunteed 400rwhp+ with AI's work.

Re: Who to port LT4 heads???

Question, I have seen AFR offer such heads as 220 LT4s or 195 LT4s, what are stock LT4 heads?

And what all should be done when getting the heads done? I want to make a bunch of power, but my times at the track are more important to me. By the way I am a a4 with 3600 stall, 3.73 gears and all boltons plus a 150 wet NX shot.

Thanks

Well that is good to hear, I was getting ready to get my heads ported. I'm glad my buddy had to wait another week to buy my LT4 heads.

Re: Who to port LT4 heads???

Guys, it's a small block chevy head with slightly different cooling passages and centerbolt valve cover holes. Nothing that any of the small block chevy head porters can't work on. There are guys out there with 30+ years experience porting and developing sbc heads. My advice... if you're looking for the same results as your buddy, use who you're buddy used... if you want something more, look elsewhere and be prepared to pay. "No free lunch" applies.

Mindgame,

If money is no object who would you suggest for head porting? Would it be fair to say that a professional porter who has never worked on a LT1 head will squeeze more power after he's done a few sets?

Thanks

Re: Who to port LT4 heads???

Steve Stumpf(SAR2K) is also doing heads at thunder racing now. I know his heads did 450 rwhp on his car with stock bottom end and hyd. cam..and he has learned some tricks since then. He also just put a set of heads on a thunder racing R&D motor and made over 505 rwhp on a 346 hyd. roller ls1. Should have dyno/track results of a set of his lt4 heads on my car here shortly. He has experience with alot of SBC stuff..just really getting into the ls1/lt1 world. His initial results are above average I would say. We will see how his updated stuff does

But Mindgame is dead on with his post. If you want to run what your buddy runs...stick to the norm. If you want to outrun him...step up and go outside the box.

Re: Who to port LT4 heads???

I don't have a head porter locally to do my work so I am going with a proven performer.
