I hope everyone understands that I didn't make that last response to be a slap in the face of "popular" LT1 head porters. Not my intent at all.

Besides the guys I consider to be "untouchable" based on the fact that all they do is R&D/big$ competition stuff (Ron Hutter, Don Losito etc)... there are some guys out there who have been at it a long time. They aren't advertisers here on the board but you asked and I'll name. I've either done business or have people close to me who've done business with each of these gentlemen...

Rich Maitre, Ram Race Heads
Larry Meaux, Meaux Racing Heads
Brian Self, Self Racing Engines
Mark ____ (drawing a blank on the last name right now) head porter at FastTimes Motorworks.
Mike Stark, CFM performance. Very reasonable prices!
Carl Foltz, Carl Foltz Enterprises (maybe... but he's big $$$)

Very impressive indeed!

He has experience with alot of SBC stuff..just really getting into the ls1/lt1 world. His initial results are above average I would say. We will see how his updated stuff does
That's what I was thinking. I'm sure professional porters could achieve similiar or above average numbers, but with more time and r&d power can be found.

But Mindgame is dead on with his post. If you want to run what your buddy runs...stick to the norm. If you want to outrun him...step up and go outside the box.
In the past 400rwhp was considered excellent results from an LT1 heads and cam package. Now were seeing numbers in the 420-450 rwhp which is incredible. I agree you can copy a combo and hope for similiar results, best advice for someone with a limited budget or time. On the other hand you can try a new source with different experience and customize a package and hope to break new ground. Chances are it will cost more money and there's no guarantee you will be ahead of others.
