Re: Who is passing emissions

So I should be fine as long as the valve timing overlaps?

Re: Who is passing emissions

I passed no problem with a HOTcam, ported heads, no EGR, no air and a high flow catalytic converter. I only had about half the allowable hydrocarbons, and about the same with carbon monoxide.

I don't think the new setup will pass though

I passed with flying colors, i think it was a fluke though. I had all my emissions hooked up and cats on it, but still, i dont think I should have passed. They sniffed it, b/c the PCM hadnt been driven on enough for it to be "ready".

I don't know how much overlap is enough, but on the LT4s the intake opens just a little before the exhaust completely closes, which allows the intake to scavenge some of the exhaust gases, this accomplishes the same thing as an EGR introducing exhaust gas into the intake charge, and thus helps reduce NOx emissions.

Yeah. I hope that I can pass. Seems like all cars that pass with out emissions are OBD11 and I am OBD1 so I don't know. Maybe a hell of a tune like a dyno tune with someone who knows what they are doing will enable me to pass. I do have at least another year just wanted to be sure that there was at least a chance even if it a small one that I can pass.

Something I forgot to mention, here in TX for the OBDII cars, they don't even sniff, they just hook up a computer to the ALDL and if there are no stored codes and it passes a few diagnostic checks then it passes.

If it makes you feel any better or gives you confidence your OBDI can pass, my truck with an LT4 motor passes the sniffer with flying colors and there's no AIR or EGR with headers.

Same here in IL, they just hook up the OBDII cars, which makes passing alot easier. However, rumor has it that they are going to change the regulations here soon and require us to do both the plug in and the roller so I'm a little worried.

Re: Who is passing emissions

my 92 gmc they didnt check anything involving emissions i cut the wires going to the o2 sensor to knock out the ses light right befor the test. by way i did buy a new one to change it but i couldnt get the old one out i heated the pipe up ever thing . i dont think they do a sniffer test in upstate ny i dont even think they look at the computer they just look at the dash to see if the ses light is on. i could be wrong though
