Who is passing emissions
Re: Who is passing emissions
FWIW ~ I BARELY failed the sniffer test on stock cam, no cat, plugged AIR fittings. Installed AIR pump and only failed by one or two parts per million on hyrocarbons.
I also witnessed first hand a catted hotcammed car with AIR deleted pass emissions

^---- And THAT is why I stayed with OBDII when everybody says to switch. Plug up test is so easy to pass. Talked to Bryan at PCMforless and he said he could make an OBDII car pass the plug up without the engine even being in the car. Said he found a "backdoor" of sorts to make it work.

Or become friends with someone who owns a garage...
Thats the easiest way to pass. And dont be a dick about it. If they will sticker it for you, take it easy for a little while after they put a hot sticker on. And dont drive around with open headers or something that will attract the po.

Re: Who is passing emissions
Metro areas of Texas have the California program, therefore, I feel your pain. I am sorta keeping an eye out for an 82Z which is now exempt. I can have my long tubes, lumpy cam, no cat, no egr, no air.....just a big smile and fuel injection. I loves fuel injection.
Re: Who is passing emissions
I guess it all depends on where you live. In NJ we have a very similar test to Cali....a chasis dyno! It's tough to pass! But other states are less strict. Where are you located?

Re: Who is passing emissions
I live in ohio which currently does not have emission testing but it is due in the next two years. I had a header leak so I decided to go with LT. My luck though no one makes emission legal LT for 93's. This lead me to research my options. I then learned that LT4's do not have e.g.r. due to the valve overlap. So then I decided to go with a cam not to big but bigger than the LT4 hotcam. Maybe the cc305. Now though I don't know if I should. I just bought my pacesetters and y-pipe along with a dynatech high flow cat so I know that that will be put on the car but maybe I sould go another route.
Re: Who is passing emissions
Keep in mind, that the AIR really doesn't have much to do with passing emissions, only helps the cats function when they are not hot.
A big lopy cam really doesn't hurt you either if the PCM is programmed right and its not running extremely rich.
As far as the EGR, again, if your cam has a similar profile to LT4 cam, or LT4 hotcam...no worries, the LT4 doesn't have an EGR because its redundant with that cam because of the intake/exhaust overlap.
Now if they are a stickler for the visual inspection, that could get you into trouble though. Here in TX they seem to only care if it passes the sniffer/dyno test.
