who makes decent heads for a lt1?
Re: who makes decent heads for a lt1?
Mike Harris in Dayton, OH can port your stock castings for you and make them really work! He has the world's fastest hydraulic cammed LT1 iron headed Impala SS in the world! I know him personally and I can get you in touch with him.
Re: who makes decent heads for a lt1?
I have the AFR 210cc heads with 2.08 and 1.60 ant i had them ported and they will flow around 310cfm thats the best i can think of or get some lt5 heads. but that will cost a crap load
Re: who makes decent heads for a lt1?
If you can afford bigger afr's 210,220,215rr than I would get them bare and have them ported by L.E.. If they are a little pricey than I would go with trickflows bare or lt4's bare and then sent to lloyd. There are many other aftermarket heads out there, the ones I listed are the ones I would buy. I am not sure what kind of numbers you looking to make or how much money you have to spend. good luck on whatever you decide.
Re: who makes decent heads for a lt1?
The AFR's are pricey if you buy them decked out, but they are priced pretty close to the trickflows when you're talking bare casting to bare casting.
You just have a loooooooong lead time with the AFR's...

Another consideration is combustion chamber size when buying performance heads. The stock LT1/4s are 54cc's and you get 10.4 to 10.8, but several of the aftermarket heads (AFR excluded) have very large (66cc) chambers. So, you will lose a lot of compression if you also use the OEM type pistons and with the large chamber heads.
I just bought a set of AFR 195cc intake LT4s, with 58cc chambers, which is the smallest chamber they offer in that head. I plan to use a thin .026" Mr. Gasket head gasket to keep the compression at 10.5. For example; if I used the factory .051" head gasket along with the 58cc's, it would drop the compression down-to 9.9.
Something to think about when buying aftermarket LT performance heads.

Advanced Induction is in NC and could work your stock heads, not the cheapest option but might save you shipping costs. LE also has a solid reputation here.
Mike Harris like chrism400 mentioned is getting some amazing results too. There are a lot of good choices you could make these are just a few.
