Where to tie steam vent into?

well guys, i stood my radiator vertical, and am trying to find a place to tie my steam vent into. Ive been told the upper radiator hose, but have also heard the heater hose.

SHbox, hopefully you will chime in.

If i tie it into the upper radiator hose, what size is that?

Also, what size is the heater hose?

Is the original connection for the steam pipe on the top or the bottom of the radiator now?

he is running a aftermarket..only has 2 hoses, Like a afco generic one.

If you have heater hoses just buy a T with a nipple on it......hoses are 5/8 I think the steam hose is 3/8

steam tube connection was origionally on the top of the passenger side. I now have a universal griffin that I stood up vertical, so, no more connection.

Was just wondering which would be the best place to tie it into.

You need to plumb it into a return hose, either radiator or heater, so that you are not fighting against the full waterpump pressure. That's the same reason the radiator cap is placed on the return tank of the radiator so that it doesn't see the waterpump pressure surges. The passenger side radiator hose is the return, not sure about the heater.

why not drill and tap a hole and put a barb fitting in there and run it into that?

cause im not personally comfortable drilling and tapping into a radiator, plus, tieing it into an existing hose keeps the front area from being so cluttered. Trying to clean up my engine bay a little bit as well.

As noted above, the line is only going to flow correctly if it is tied into the lowest pressure point in the system, which is the return side. And, the line may contain water vapor (steam). On the stock radiator, there is supposed to be some sort of "vapor seperator" inside the tank (never looked to see). The non-generic, LT1-specific Griffin radiator includes the connection for the steam line, the oil cooler, etc... that's why it costs more.

You need to make sure there is no possibility the vapor bubbles can get near the pump suction connection.

okay, i've found two different possibilities

1) I can tie it into the heater hose that has the tee on it that one part goes to the throttle body. If I do this, do I put it on the heater core side, or the water pump side so that I can use the screw to get gas out

2) I can tie it into my throttle body bypass.

which of those would work best?

I have my steam vent connected to my upper radiator hose. It is a 94 hose. The 95 and up doesn't have this. It has worked fine for seven years.

Yeah, i just went and tied it into the smaller upper radiator hose that goes to the TB then to the heater hoses.

So, killed two birds with one stone (tied in steam vent, and did a TB bypass) ahha.
