Fuel pressure gauge reads zero but car starts right up!?!?

I got a new fuel pressure gauge today and I can't get it to read any pressure throught the shrader valve....I have an aeromotive fuel pressure regulator on my car and my fuel system is loading up because you can hear out the exhaust ..that snap crackle pop sound...Anyways what the hell could be going on here?? I never turned the car on to get pressure just ignition on then off.....I'm real confused..And now the gauge isn't broken..Any help would be great..Am I forgetting a step somewhere
For a 97 lt1

I dunno maybe the gauge is broke...but if i blow into the line on the gauge the needles moves just a hair..

I also tried it with the car running and got no reading...hmmm

Maybe there is no pin in the end of the gauge fitting you are screwing on to depress the valve on the fuel rail.

That happned to me and i took it back to the auto parts store without a receipt and they gave me a new one. You can take you finger and push the top of the valve to get gas to come out. Just look in the end of the gauge and see if the center piece is still there.

I thought the correct way was to take out the valve in the shard, not put one into the gauge?

If you are permanently mounting a gauge, that might be ok, but not for a test gauge.

I usually unscrew the valve when testing pressure, just in case the part that's supposed to depress it doesn't depress it completely and I get an inaccurate reading. There's a $5 tool you can buy that allows you to remove and reinstall it very easily.
