Where to get stroker shortblock?

One of my friends is getting ready to buy a stroker motor for his 97 TA. Where is the best place to buy an assembled stroker shortblock.

You can try LS1 Speed or Combination Motorsports, among others.

You will also need a core to give them, OR they will kill you to use one of theirs.

I'm gonna suggest LPE...I know they are high $$$, but I've been running my LPE 383 since 1995 and never had the valve covers off!!! Their quality of parts and attention to detail are second to none.

Re: Where to get stroker shortblock?

I have checked Combination, but haven't called to talk to them about it yet.

atljar, we have his engine already pulled out of the car, just need to buy one and send the block to them.

What about AP Engineering, they had a gp a while back, does anyone have any experience with them?

Another one to check would be AP Engineering.

Re: Where to get stroker shortblock?

Or you could gather the parts and let a local competant machineshop assemble the shortblock for you.

Re: Where to get stroker shortblock?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will give a few of these places a call for my buddy and go with one of them.

We considered gathering the parts and having it done locally, but there really isn't a good machine shop close by.

Re: Where to get stroker shortblock?

Yeah, if the local shops do nothing but churn out rebuilds and valvejobs then they probably arent a good choice.

Re: Where to get stroker shortblock?

Yeah I really don't think I could make myself let them do a rebuild. One of my buddies had an engine (using good parts) done through them and the second time he raced it he blew the engine, not quite reliable enough for me

Scoggin - Dickey sells 383 short blocks with all 4340 forged internals and splayed caps for $4500.

Thanks for the link Mindgame. I don't think he needs anything like that, just a good street/strip motor.
