Where do you think this piece went?

OK, part of my dipstick broke off, you can see what's missing in the pictures below. I pulled the dipstick tube out of the block and pushed through it and nothing came out. I pulled the oil pan and felt around inside and it's nowhere to be found. I'm almost 100% sure that it just broke off and fell down inside. (long story, not really important) It hasn't been started since the time I belive it fell out. Here's the pics just to give you an idea of what's broken off.

My question is where could it have gone if it's not in the dipstick tube and not in the oil pan? I can't find it...what damage will that little piece of plastic and tiny O-ring cause if it gets up inside the engine?

I wouldn't think it's small enough to make it down the tube. Although I can't remember how big it is. Change the oil and see if it comes out?

Already drained all the oil, it didn't come out. It must be small enough to make it down the tube because it's a part of the dipstick that's inside the tube.

No, not possible that it broke off by a previous owner. I remember when it broke. I should have busted it off of there then, but I guess I didn't have that much foresight. Like I said, I've got the oilpan down off the block. It's not off of the car completely, I can't get it out of there. Anyway, after feeling around for a couple minutes on two separate occasions, I still can't find it. I pulled the filter off, it's not in there either. Any other ideas? Again, what are the foreseeable consequences of this thing being in there and me starting it up? (not that I'll do that, I'll exhaust every effort just about to get it out of there.)

Its too big to fit through the screen on the oil pump, so there's really no way it could get out of the pan.

Thanks guys, although I think I might remember busting the part up off of the stick just so it didn't come off in the pan. So I pretty much dropped my pan for no reason...I feel like such a retard sometimes.
