Re: wheels aren't chirpin!!!!

hmm, wierd considering the fact that u prolly only have an open differential and it should easily peel. Try doing it with the engine still somewhat cold, before it hits 120 and see then, sometimes when they're hot they tend to be a little low on the power.

only other thing that i can think of is maybe a fuel filter needs changed and its robbing the engine of power.

Re: wheels aren't chirpin!!!!

I wouldn't expect much. From a 10mph roll when my Camaro was stock it did nothing. When I had the catback and cold air kit I still couldn't and the car dyno'd 270rwhp and 303 lb/ft of torque. Once I added my LT's, ORY and a tune it would just kind of chirp them a little on way to redline. Now that I have a head/cam setup it will toast them from 20mph roll with ease. Still don't get too much in second but my clutch has 54K on it and probably is starting to slip with the added power. I never have had a problem roasting them from a dead stop though.

Ditto, when my car was stock it couldn't spin them from a roll unless it was super and cold even then i might of had headers, catback and cai i really can't remember.

Yeah my TA used to rip tires up no problem bone stock. I thought it was a freak beast or something was done to it because it had decent power. Id guess you have an air/fuel issue here OR ignition. Check spark plugs and wires and such. Check the coil directly with a good wire and new spark plug and see how she fires when grounded to the block (best done at night). You may have weak spark, bad plugs/wires, or insufficient fuel (air filter could be plugged also). You should have around 35 psi fuel perssure when cranking.

Tire size has a big difference! When I was on 245/50/16 I could roast 1st gear any time I wanted. Then I went to a cheap 275/40/17 (falken) tire and I still could spin them but not as hard. Now that I got G-Force KDs in 275/40/17 I can harldy spin them in 1st.

What tire size and make do you have on?

Re: wheels aren't chirpin!!!!

W/ a bone stock 96 lt1 m6 w/ fuzion zri's I can only spin them for maby 10 feet from a dead stop w/ no clutch drop. Spinnen them from a roll seems far fetched if you have new tires of any kind.

Re: wheels aren't chirpin!!!!

There is no way a slightly modified LT1 is going to roast the tires from a 10mph roll. Maybe with bald tires or if it is very cold out. I had no problem pulling away from LS1's when I had my LT's and ORY, and I still couldn't roast the tires. They would slightly break loose from 10 mph roll but that is it. So don't worry about it, unless you are having problems from a dead stop then you might have a problem.

You know I might have to take back my previous statement. Just got back from a cruise and I can light them up in 1st gear anytime I want. I'm guessing weather + tires + condition of vehicle = whether or not 1st will burn

Re: wheels aren't chirpin!!!!

Define anytime and burning up the tires. From a stop sure, I could always smoke them real hard. I just don't belive any slightly modded LT1 is doing 20mph or even 10mph rolls and burning up the tires. Unless you are dumping the clutch at 10mph.. I have owned two 97 LT1's, the first one was brand new which had the traction control and cheaper tires and it couldn't do it. Both with M6's as well. My current car does have 275/17's which may limit it some. I have had the 275's before the LT's and ORY.

I mean just that. 10mph roll, 20. Didn't try out every speed but i don't have to dump the clutch to make them spin. I can even get 2nd gear to peelout on some pavement My car has a total tune up done to it so maybe that helps

Exactly! I can maybe spin the tires from a roll if I'm on some junk asphalt that's really smooth, but that's about it. Even when I was spraying a 125 shot I could usually hook up with 255's on any decent concrete or newer asphalt surface. Even if I dump the clutch i'll usually only spin for 20 feet or so and then hook. If you guys are stock or close to stock and are blowing the tires off from a roll in an M6(unless you have 4.56 gears), I'd say it's time for some new tires.
