Wheel spin at 4500 RPM

I've been experiencing spinning tires at around 4500 Rpm I shift right at 5000 RPM. This is only happening in 1st gear. I don't burn the tires off on take off so i don't know what's causing this. My tires are only a few months old and have alot of thread. I've got the T-56 trans. Any ideas about what's causing this and do I need to be worried. Also my tires are stock size too.

Your sure its the tires and not the clutch/transmission slipping?

Don't think its the clutch and trans. Clutch is only 5 months old. Also I can hear the tires squeel when I have the windows down.

I can only think of something suspension then.. your sure its at 4500 only, and not just the whole 1st gear? I know with my car if I floor it even after launching, my tires spin all of 1st and most of 2nd before it catches. Is this normal or semi-normal driving, or WOT?

Re: Wheel spin at 4500 RPM

It's WOT driving. It takes off good and then starts to spin right before I go into second. Catches in second and little and continues to take off.

Could be your belts slipping, making a chirping noise and fooling you into thinking its the tires? Mine does this on WOT 1-2 shifts

Re: Wheel spin at 4500 RPM

Do a couple of these runs including the 1-2 shift then go back and measure/study the tire marks on the pavement. Concrete is nice if you can find it. The tire marks, or lack thereof, should tell you what is going on.

Also have someone observe from outside the car near the 4500-5500 rpm area.

Re: Wheel spin at 4500 RPM

4500 rpm is about the peak power for an LT1 with stock manifolds, so that sounds completely normal to me
