whats wrong with my ac? :(

after my friend and i put in the cam in my car, the hose got ripped, and all the freeon leaked out... i just replaced the hose, and got it refilled with freeon, but now the ac wont engage (it doesnt do that clicking thing when u turn it on or off) it just blows normal vent air...

i made sure all the wires going from teh ac are plugged in and tight, but still no luck...

whats wrong with my ac?

please help! its fricking 100 degrees in FL these days!!! and my window motor broke too!

thx

Did you get enough R-134A into the system to have enough pressure to make the clutch engage??

I.E. if there's not enough pressure in the system, the A/C Compressor clutch won't engage.

Hook AC guages up to the car to check the pressure. THe PCM requires a certain amount of pressure to be in the system before it will kick it on. It detemines this by a pressure sensor hooked up to the AC lines on the passenger side wheel - it's also possible the sensor is no good (this happened to me and kept my AC compressor from engaging since hte system thought i was low on freeon, which i wasn't).

You should have a low pressure switch on the line or on the accumulator. Unplug the switch and make a jumper wire to jump the circuits. If the clutch engages either the freon is low or the switch is bad.

Re: whats wrong with my ac? :(

I beleive the low pressure switch can be purchased at any aftermarket parts store and you are supposed to be able to replace the switch without loosing refrigerant ( there is a schrader valve in the hard steel line that the switch mounts onto ) so you should be able to remove switch, and with switch out schrader valve will close not allowing refrigerant to excape. While back I didnt have such luck, when I removed the switch the schader valve was stuck open so I lost all the refrigerant.

If you decide the switch is bad take it to the parts store with you. Thay make two different size switches. One is a 1/4" schrader and the other is a 10mm. You will lose a small amount of freon till the switch screws out enough to seat the schrader valve but not enough that it should make a difference.
