Whats needed to carb an LT1?
First things first, I did a search and found a few threads, but not exactly what I needed. Some of the threads i found got a little hostile, and I do not want to start an argument about which is better. I think fuel injection is the way to go, but I just got another LT1 and I'm gonig to put it in my stepdads vette.
What all would we need to buy? I know we need an intake, carb, and distributor, but how will the water pump work without the opti? Also, how do I get fuel to the carb, do I need special fittings and an adjustable FPR? I know there is more to it than what I'm asking about, so any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

You want a carbed smallblock start with a gen 1, easy as that. The injection is a BIG part of what makes the LT1 what it is. Without that it is just another smallblock.
Stay gen 1 and you have a lot more head and intake options.
The fact that you think the opti being gone will in any way impact the function of the waterpump says you are not ready for a project like this anyway.

You need a regulated electric fuel pump system that can deliver 7-10psi to the carb. There's a GM part # cover for the hole left when the Opti is removed. As noted, its absence has no affect on anything if you aren't using a computer controlled ignition system.
It would probably end up costing about the same as some vortec heads and a decent cam after everything is said and done, right? So if we wanted to keep it fuel injected, would it be hard to transfer the wiring harness to the vette? I know my way around the LT1 f-bodys, but Im a rookie when it comes to anything else. Would this be over my head?
