What's the hottest your car gets to in traffic on those hot summer days (80+)? If you have made cooling system (fan/thermostat) mods, let us know what you've done / how hot it got before the mod / how hot it gets now

 

hottest ive ever seen mine was with ac on full blast sitting on a 100+ degree day doing city driving, got to about 195-210. Honestly don't know about thermostat setting/cooling mods because i wasn't the first owner.

 

mine gets EXTREMELY hot, but I pull the air pump fuse out to turn the fans on. it sets an ses code

 

Hmm .. not a bad idea, esp. if you've removed the cat.. Which fuse is it?

 

its under the hood in the relay box, i would only recommend it if yours gets too hot for comfort and cant afford a manual fan switch-- me

 

i voted 220......but sometimes it's been a tiny bit above that. I try to take it easy when it gets that high. No burnouts from traffic lights or anything.

 

fan switch, 160 thermostat. thats sitting in standstill traffic on the freeway for a long time in 110+ degree weather during rush hour.

edit: forgot to say temp, lol. my temp is 210 at the hottest, usually is like at 180 or so when it is 95 and under

time to change. i just changed my compressor, and now my temps never go above 180. odd. it also squeeks now too. another odd thing

 

Mine definitely gets too hot for comfort (235) .. definitely not doing anything until I can have the PCM programmed to kick the fans on sooner .. might consider pulling that fuse.. It's odd, though, because I've seen the gauge near the 235 mark (within five degrees at least), and *no high speed fan*.. It was my understanding that it is supposed to come on down in the 220s..

 

What is the temp, though??

 

mine did the same until i realized my primary fan wasnt coming on, although I could "hear" a fan I never checked. All along the secondary fan only worked. Replaced the primary (SUPER EASY and only like 40 bucks!) and much, much better!

 

Hi, I'm new on here, I live in Rio Rancho NM (next to Albuquerque), where it is plenty warm (high 90's but usually nothing above that). I've had a '94 A4 Z and now have a 97 M6. The 94 never got much over 200, but the 97 gets to that in the winter when sitting in long traffic lines. The 94 had factory oil cooler, and the automatic cooler, makes me wonder if it had a bigger radiator? The 97 seems to be calibrated leaner and that may also be a factor.

 

Stock stat, 50/50 mix, keep the heat on (dash) = 195/6 for me.

 

Lol, glad to see I'm not the only one who runs the heat on hot days.. I have a 'vert, so I put the top down and crank on the defrost (can't feel the heat, and it also causes the fans to kick on sooner, due to the AC compressor running), and then it usually doesn't get above 205ish.. I find it somewhat disturbing that the tiny little heater core can make a 30 degree difference.. Makes me think that I might need a new radiator.

 

My car has NEVER went over the second line after the 160 t-stat and tune. My antifreeze looks like rusty mush too. :P I should flush it.

 

I voted 220, but I know here in College Station, TX, where the humidity is horrible and it's over 100 degrees it will reach 230 sitting with the A/C on. I need to get me a 160 t-stat. If I'm moving no matter what the temp is outside it won't get over 180-190.

Also...primary fan kicks on at 226. I can't remember when the secondary kicks in.
