Whats going my opti or my clutch???
Whats going my opti or my clutch???
Ok my problem is some hesitation after shifting at around 2500rpms the car kind of chugs and then picks back up. My question is where is this hesitation problem stemming from? Could it be the clutch? Or is it the dreaded optispark? Is there a method to test the clutch or opti to prove which one is at fault here? Thanks!
Lately I've been shifting at 3000 to 3500 rpms and haven't had any hesitiation, but when I go back to the 2500 it starts again.

FYI...
It's not necessarily the Opti, and, it COULD be the Opti.
For all it's worth, here goes.
If your car has hesitation problems, this is the same symptom for many things.
clogged fuel filter.
Dirty air filter.
Clogged cat. The car starts to run hotter as well.
EGR. Also may include rough idle.
O2 sensors need to be changed. Symptoms include rough idle or hesitation during extreme accelleration, or both, or one or the other.
Change plugs/wires. Same symptoms.
Clean out the Throttle body. Same symptoms. While you're at it, clean out the IAC valve which is bolted on directly underneath the throttle body. Get a gasket replacement kit from GM, this has 4 gaskets, about 40-45 bucks. You could get it less from GMPartsDirect.com, I didn't want to wait, so it cost me $42.00 for the kit from the dealer.
Coil???
Vacuum hose leak.
Bad Opti. If you change the Opti, BUY A NEW ONE! Also replace the waterpump, you have to remove the WP to get to the Opti anyway, so WTF?
Did you get your car scoped yet? Is there an Autozone by you? They do a free computer scan/scope/whater you call it, based on what code comes out, you could get a definite answer.
Chances are, you may not get a definite answer, if you do not, then I would suggest going for the cheapest route first on the list above, then all the way to finally changing the Opti.
Good luck!

Dirty air filter. -K&N CAI put on 8,000 miles ago.
Clogged cat. The car starts to run hotter as well.
EGR. Also may include rough idle. - possible.
O2 sensors need to be changed. Symptoms include rough idle or hesitation during extreme accelleration, or both, or one or the other. -Also possible.

Vacuum hose leak.-How would you go about testing that?

Yeah, I doubt it's the clutch. It seems like if your clutch was on its way out and starting to slip, your engine would rev without transmitting power to the wheels for a second or two when you got on it pretty hard. If it's a bog I'd say it's engine related, maybe even something as simple as plugs/wires or something.
Well, best of luck, hope this helps.

Vacuum hose leaks?
Someone told me an ingenious way of checking the vacuum hoses. You have vacuum hoses located on both sides of the fuel rail, get a bottle of STP throttle body cleaner, with the engine running, spray some of this stuff along the vacuum hoses, if your cars idle starts trippin, you have a vacuum leak!
How's about the clogged cat? Is that a possibility?
I'm pretty sure Autozone can still do the scans on OBD1's, but I thought that 95's on up were OBDII???

The unfortunate thing about our cars is that, just because no codes are thrown, doesn't mean that the particular valve isn't going bad, it may mean that they aren't bad enough to throw a code yet! Isn't that a bummer?
I guess that yours is the Opti then. Good luck, let us know what happens when you change it
