Actually the Camaro equivalent of a WS6 is a SS
Thanks for the correction pennys58, I wasn't thinking about the WS6.

PhoenixCIS Has it bang on!! The Zeds are a little faster because the weigh less...less ground effects than the TAs!!

Let's not forget that in the case of the LT1 there are some that run strong and some that aren't as strong.

The Camaro is faster because that's what I have. Back in '87 the Formula was fastest. I had a Formula back then.

The F-body ordered by an individual at the dealership whose car is stripped of all creature comforts, checking the right boxes on the order sheet for the proper performance options, has an engine installed from the factory that happens to be a ringer, that would be the fastest stk. F-body.

Oh, the person should also know how to drive his/her ride.

I read somewhere that the newer ls-1's, were slightly different...the formula beat the camaro for some reason, even though the weight was very similiar.

And i'd have to say the weight difference of a formula would make it slightly quicker than the trans-am...and Im not just saying this because Im a formula owner! Im sure it's so close that it makes virtually no difference though.

Formulas are lighter...I ran against a a4 94 w/ 323's that ran a 13.7 stock, ya dont see that everyday, not so uncommon but still impressive

formulas are faster, ive seen it again and agian in test runs from various car magazines. dont know why, aerodynamics? lighter? but they have the heavier headlight mechanisms. but they only barely tested faster, on any given day it would be up to the driver.

As far as LT1's go here are the fastest from what I have seen at the track and in mags in order

1. Formula Firehawk
2. Formula WS6(better air intake than SS)
3. Trans Am WS6
4. Camaro SS
5.1LE Formula and Z28
6.Formula and Z28
7.Trans Am

Thats for all cars with the same body and transmission.Theoretically, the lighter car with everything else being the same is going to be faster, but like was said, some are just faster for no apparent reason(production tolerances)There's also an argument that the 93's are faster than the 94+ (but thats another story)also the 1/4 mile time of an LT1 F-body can range anywhere from mid-low 14's like a 94 automatic Trans Am convertible,to mid-low 13's (96-97 6spd Firehawk coupe)Then theres the LT4 cars(even faster)

agreed! LS1 SS and a WS6 T/A are pretty equal. Its not really which LT1 f-body is faster Z28 or T/A, Formula its which one WEIGHS less!
