Your emissions system includes a charcoal canister (located behind the driver's side rear wheel, behind a plastic panel). On the passanger side of the intake manifold (at least on a 95) is a solenoid that allows air/fuel vapors to flow back and forth from the evaporative canister to suck up fuel fumes and to reburn them. Check to see that your solenoid connector is connected. The PCM isn't seeing a signal and throwing a code.

On a 95 the EGR solenoid is located on the driver's side of the intake in the back by the fuel lines.

The charcoal canister is under the car, not in the hatch area. If you look in your driver's side wheel well, you'll see a plastic panel towards the rear. If you pull this panel (one screw and one plastic rivet) you'll see the canister. Chances are your problem is under the hood by the solenoid. If your car has really been smelling like gasoline, then your canister could be bad.

so your saying either the solenoid on the intake manifold is bad or the canister is bad?if the canister was bad however would that throw a ses.i could see the solenoid throwing a ses before a canister.how hard would it be to change the solenoid without taking the manifold off?and where can i get this solenoid.thanks alot

My guess is that your solenoid or the harness going to the solenoid is the cause for your code. I stated above that a strong gasoline smell around your car is the symptom of a bad/clogged canister. I'd check the connection to your solenoid (make sure it's connected, make sure the connector isn't dirty, check that the wires are burned/cut).

One of the GM internet dealers (Dal, Jason Cromer, GMpartsdirect.com) is your cheapest route for a replacement solenoid if you decide the solenoid's bad. If you've got a F-Body friend in the area, swap solenoid's with him to test your system.

I'd check Shoebox's site, he has lots of diagrams.

DTC 26 is ONLY for the EEC purge solenoid. The OBD-I cars have no "flow" diagnostics for EEC like the OBD-II cars. Either the solenoid is burned out, the harness plug is off the solenoid, or the wires in the harness are bad.

well i found what the problem is.the solenoid is fine.when i burned up my o2 sensor harnesses(pass side) i had to cut off the harnesses and crimp and try to match the wires together.i just found out that the brown wire from the o2 sensor goes to the purge solenoid and the fans.well just so happens im also throwing a fan 1 code also.the brown wire must be crossed wtih another one.im just glad i found the problem.i also tripped the SES right after this o2 wire job so this has to be the problem.looks like i have to get under there and see if i cant match em right.thanks guys.
