I ended up using Mobil 1 plus the GM additive. Its has worked great.

Standard Valvoline 90-145 (<<probably wrong weight can't think of the numbers right now), with no GM additive.

Re: What is your choice for rear end fluid

Went to GM top pick up some Gear Oil and they had the 80W90 fluid. But when reading the fine print on the back it says its GL-4 Compliant, not GL-5! Which is what the manual specs out for Limited Slip Differentials (Gl-5). They asked a mechanic and said that "thats what we use for them, along with a bottle of the additive".
The parts guy then said the additive makes the "GL-4" a "GL-5"

Can anyone confirm this? Why wouldn't it ask for GL-4 with additive ininstead in the manual rather then GL-5 w/ additive?

If you use synthetic gear oil, it will void the warranty if you have a Torsen diff. That's how strongly they feel about it.

However, just because synthetic may not be the best in this application, doesn't mean anyone said it wasn't for anything else. I use Royal Purple in the engine and trans still (even though most people say to use dino on A4s also).
