What will this cam idle like?

Hi, I decided to go back with a turbo. I currently have a comp cams blower grind cam 218/230 @ .050 .528/.536 w/1.6rr no advance ground in, ground on a 114lsa. I wanted more lope even though I know blower/n2o and turbo cams aren't supposed to lope radically. The new cam I ordered is:227/227 dur. @ .050 .560/.560 lift w/1.6rr ground on a 114 lsa.

I really like the way a xe 224/230 112lsa cam idles. How do you guys think the new cam will idle compared to my current cam and compared to the 224/230 112lsa cam?

Justin

It will barely lope.. its a small duration and its on a 114.. I would say you are going to have to listen for it to hear it..

I agree compared to yours it is small but it almost has the same intake duration as a cc306 which has a really choppy idle. Because of the LSA on my cam being 114 it will obviously be smoother. I'm just looking for someone to give me a comparison against one of the other common LT1 cams. It's bigger than a cc305 and they are both ground on a 114 lsa.You can definately hear a cc305 lope.

Re: What will this cam idle like?

You can make anything lope, just lower the idle RPM.

Thank you, but all I'm really looking for is somebody that knows about cams to make an educated guess at what they think the cam will Idle like compared to the 224/230 112lsa cam. (about the same, a little more ,not as much, whatever)

Im just saying, you can play with your idle till you get the lope that you want. Its probably gunna sound similar to the 224/230, just a bit more tame.

Ill never understand you guys that are just concerend about how the car sounds at idle.

I just like it. Don't get me wrong I'm more concerned with making power than I am with sounding like a dragster. I do like the way a healthy n/a car sounds the best though. My 218/230 on a 114lsa has a little lope, you really have to listen to hear it. I also like the attention a bumpy cam gets while sitting at traffic lights.

Every one loves a nasty sounding cam, just seems like with a lot of people that is all they care about. I would love to have my car sound like that, but with the lope that usually means you make your power in the upper RPMS, and drivability and all around power is at the top of my list.

On as side note, the cam in my car is a mid 220s/mid 230s cam ground on a 110 LSA. It idles about 950 rpm and it sounds like a hot cam car. If i droped the idle down im sure it would have a noticable lope. You have a little bit of room to play with and you can get the idle you want most times.

Just curious, what made you pick that cam? The LT1 heads flow a lot better on the intake than the exhaust, so why would you want a longer intake duration? Im just wondering.

Re: What will this cam idle like?

damn this is turning into a "***** size" contest...--well to my 24" *****..yes your 14" ***** is small-- the cam is going to sound good..and close to the XE..but as you already know(just by looking at the numbers) its going to be smoother..but youll still feel it and people will know you have one.

From the research I have done, and from the talks Ive had with Lloyd Elliot (no this is not a LE cam) This cam will make some really good power up top where I want it.. It seems that the smaller duration on the exhaust, it seems to pick up a bit more on the torque..

I don't know how true this will be in the real world, but Im willing to give it a go..
